Christian Science has brought much joy into my life and given me a real reason for living. When I was a college student, one day I came down with a severe cold during my morning classes. I had come away without a handkerchief and had to choose between buying one and buying a sandwich. Being a student of Christian Science, I decided to buy the sandwich and heal myself of the cold. The healing was instantaneous. I do not remember the specific truths I worked with, but probably they were truths from the article "'I've Got Cold,'" a favorite of mine (see Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy, pp.239-241).

Another cold was healed when I was working as copyholder in a publishing house. The proofreader noticed my discomfort and made some remark about it. I called a local Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer and was healed almost instantly. The proofreader, who had been trying to convert me to her own religion, was greatly impressed by the speed with which the symptoms disappeared.

A cyst on my eyelid developed while I was teaching grade school. The children's parents began to comment on this lump, which had become inflamed and swollen. So I visited a practitioner. At the end of the meeting she stated that if I could be healed of self-justification, I could be healed of anything. Later, as I prayed about what she had said, I found it to be true, for I was healed of the tendency toward self-justification and of the cyst!
