Spiritual joy
The weighty burdens
of accumulated years
hanging like heavy beads
around the neck
drop
from the lives of those
whose joy is constant:
ruby-rich
emerald-clear
diamond-durable.
It is a jewel
polished by perseverance
guarded by glowing faith;
a gem shared
with the generosity
of impartial love
whose value increases
when worn daily
on the light chain
of buoyant years.
