I sometimes used to wonder what my life would have been like...
I sometimes used to wonder what my life would have been like had I not become acquainted with Christian Science some thirty-six years ago. Now, however, this Science is so much a part of my existence that I cannot even contemplate any other way of living. I have indeed very much to be grateful for.
Early in my study of Science I developed an illness of an alarming nature. (I did not have a medical diagnosis, as I had no desire to rely on anything but Christian Science.) Throughout this time I had no fear of the outcome, since I was certain there would be a full healing. With the most loving and dedicated prayer of a Christian Science practitioner, gradually and surely the problem was entirely overcome.
I well remember the turning point. The practitioner had spoken to me often of my true, spiritual perfection. One day, while I was out walking slowly and painfully, a vision of Truth came with such clarity that I stopped suddenly and spoke aloud the words that had occurred to me: "If I am completely perfect—then I am perfectly complete." The understanding of my relationship to God as the perfect child of a perfect Father began with this flash of light. This light of inspiration grew brighter, until it so filled my consciousness that there was no place for thoughts of disease or pain. As God became All to me, I experienced the physical healing. The stiff feeling in my back gradually receded, and once more I could move easily and painlessly.
