The grass on the front lawn was still flattened down where Karen's new red bicycle had been. Why, oh why, hadn't she put it away last night? She knew she should have done it right after Mom called her to come in from play.
She flew up the steps to phone Mother at the office. "Oh, Mom!" she wailed, trying hard not to cry, "someone has taken my bike! How can we get it back?"
"You mean you left it outside all night, and now it's gone?"
