Lawfulness of Truth

Why should we stop when the traffic light is red? Because the red light is a reminder of a law, which when disobeyed brings a penalty. And so it is with the law of Truth; when it is disobeyed there is also a penalty. Both are self-inflicted—if we'd obeyed the law, we wouldn't have been punished.

Disobedience to Truth brought difficulty into my experience one time when I permitted myself to resent and then to hate an individual for what seemed to be unjustifiably cruel treatment. The hatred did not affect the individual, but it did become painfully apparent in my body as stiffness, soreness, and shortness of breath.

One day, while attempting with great difficulty to perform a service for a friend, I heard these inspiring angel messages: "You do not and cannot hate the person who seems to be troubling you. You never did! You only believe you do because mortal mind is telling you so." Now, the substance of those messages was the spiritual fact of the situation, and when I recognized that truth, I said to myself, "In that case I will not listen to mortal mind any longer." Instantaneous relief followed. The aches and pains flowed from the body, and my breathing returned to normal.
