When there's a sleepless night
When sleeplessness troubles us, we can use the stillness of night to listen to God's voice and to know Him better. Restless nights can be made steppingstones, times of progress when we learn more of the comforting presence of the divine Love that is God.
Lifting our thoughts to God during these late hours, we can perceive that God is our tender Mother as well as our powerful Father. Our Father-Mother's precious Christ is ever with us to illumine our thinking with this reassuring truth. Enlightened by the true sense of God, we gain an awareness of Love's enfolding affection for us and all. We come to feel that God is as close to us during sleepless hours as at high noon. This brings us rest and peace.
Fear is often what keeps us from sleeping at night. Let's realize that anxiety and worry are not irresistible bogeymen that can paralyze or demoralize our thinking. Christian Science explains that fear in any form is basically a lack of knowing and trusting God. Fear is an ignorance of the great truth that God is All, that He is omnipotent and omnipresent, that He is the source of man's true being. By vigorously acknowledging God's allness and our oneness with Him, and by gratefully accepting the protection of "the everlasting arms" of divine Love, we can prevent the entrance of apprehension or dread into our consciousness.
