"...prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of...
"...prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it" (Mal. 3:10). This promise came true when I began the study of Christian Science some fifteen years ago. At that time I was in the depths of discouragement. The pit was black and the outlook bleak. But when the understanding of the Christ Science began to dawn, "the windows of heaven" did indeed open for me in every direction.
How can words convey the depth of my gratitude for the bountiful blessings my family and I have enjoyed! Specifically, there has been protection from danger, an abundance to meet all our needs, the harmonizing of discordant relationships, employment opportunities, and healings of headaches, colds, stomach disorders, sunburn, damaged teeth, ear infections, and a severe shoulder injury.
Though my parents gave their children by example a certain code of morality and decency, they had no absolute, objective standard. Both had forsaken the traditional religions of their own backgrounds. Furthermore, the social circles in which they moved relied heavily on psychotherapy and drugs, tobacco and alcohol for comfort, cure, and celebration. Small wonder, then, that I became an ardent smoker and drinker while still a teen-ager.
