FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
The zeal to win
Sam Savitt, a contemporary American artist, is quoted as saying: "The horse is beauty, strength, rhythm and action. To really know and understand him, to capture his magnificence with pencil or brush, will be to me forever challenging."
Carrie shared Mr. Savitt's enthusiasm for the beauty of the horse and very much loved owning one. Her horses were primarily pleasure horses used for after-school enjoyment. But one year she bought a young horse named Samson and began to work with him. It was quite obvious that this horse had something extra, something special—that he was capable of being a performance horse as well as a pleasure horse.
And so, Carrie began to exhibit him in some horse shows. And Samson won. Maybe he didn't always win a blue ribbon, but he always earned a ribbon for placing somewhere. He loved being shown, and she loved showing him.
