Which tree?
No matter what our human lineage seems to be, each of us can claim the heritage of purity, stability, and perfection that has been given to us by our Father-Mother God. In fact, the extent of our well-being depends upon which ancestry we claim—a human one or a divine.
It has been said that no one is responsible for his ancestry, but that his ancestry certainly is responsible for him. Actually, each individual is responsible only for what he accepts as true of his lineage. Christian Science explains that God created man spiritually and reveals man's divine ancestry, pointed to by the Psalmist who sang: "Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God." Ps. 90:1,2. There is nothing in man's spiritual lineage to create imperfection or deformity. Man in God's image is the only real selfhood of every individual.
The carnal or mortal mind depicts man as having common ancestry with apes. Such theories embrace and encourage the fundamental imperfections of mankind, but they are entirely mythological, having nothing to do with spiritual reality. In truth, man is the offspring of the divine will and is obedient and subject to divine Mind alone. The supposititious human will never conceived man, and it has no power or authority over him. The seeming action of the carnal mind never formed or produced a true concept. Mortal mind's conceptions are all mis-conceptions.
