Two years ago, just three days before a family reunion was scheduled to take place at my home, an ugly growth appeared on my face. I was so caught up with all the preparations for this festive occasion that I took little time for the needed scientific prayer concerning the problem. Many alarming predictions and remarks were made, and as each guest arrived, the growth became more and more the topic of conversation. I silently tried to reverse the comments and warnings, realizing that family members only meant to be helpful, but some of the talk made a deep impression on me. As soon as the guests departed I called a practitioner to help me through prayer, and within a day or so, much of the fear had subsided.

Two Bible verses were extremely helpful at this time. One from Genesis (32:30) reads in part, "I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." After pondering the meaning of these words— spoken by Jacob at Peniel—I saw myself more clearly as the pure, flawless, blemish-free expression of God. I recognized my nature as Godlike and knew that life is ever preserved.

The other verse was from Psalms (103:16), "For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more." When I mentioned this passage to the practitioner, she asked me if I was familiar with Mrs. Eddy's definition of "wind" in the Glossary of Science and Health. It begins (p. 597): "Wind. That which indicates the might of omnipotence and the movements of God's spiritual government, encompassing all things." For a week or more I pondered the spiritual meaning of the verse from Psalms in the light of this definition, and the inspiration I yearned for came.
