"And he put them all out"

Christ Jesus demonstrated again and again the healing, regenerating power of God. On the hillsides, in the streets, he ministered to the individual and to multitudes. Numbers were never an obstacle. But on one occasion Jesus required that human interference and skepticism be quieted and removed from the scene.

The Gospel of Luke relates that the only daughter of Jairus had fallen seriously ill. See Luke 8:40-42, 49-56 . Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, personally called on the Master to come and heal his daughter. As Jesus was returning with him, a messenger arrived saying that the child had died. By the time they reached the house, family members and professional mourners were already grieving.

Yet Jesus was never one to accept outward appearances as the final verdict. He maintained the spiritual truth of life eternal, life forever held in the embrace of God, divine Love. Jesus countered the picture of death and sorrow with the Truth-inspired assertion, "Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth."
