I learned of Christian Science at a place where I was employed on a temporary basis. I took to this teaching as soon as I found it, because it offered what I had been looking for—a logical explanation of the omnipotent nature of God and His perfect idea, man. Through my study of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly, many obstacles have been overcome. I have been able to stand on my own, supported by an awareness of our Father's dear love for His children. Membership in The Mother Church and Christian Science class instruction have also richly contributed to my spiritual growth.

Not long after I'd taken class, I traveled with some members of my family to a cousin's engagement ceremony. On our way back, there were four of us in the car. The driver drove very fast. Although he was repeatedly warned to slow down, he refused to heed this advice. I spent the time reading a Sentinel in an effort to calm my fear. We were quite near our destination when suddenly the car went off the road, rolling over and over. Aloud I denied vehemently that an accident could be taking place. I had begun to learn in Science that what appears as a mishap is a delusion of the material senses, for God's man is held forever safe in the harmony of His law.

Before the car came to a stop, I was thrown out. Someone called an ambulance, and I was taken unconscious to the hospital. The other occupants of the car did not survive. At the hospital I regained consciousness before medical attention could be administered. A doctor was ready to give me an injection, but I declined to accept it. I told him that I was a Christian Scientist and would prefer they call a Christian Science practitioner to help me through prayer. The call was made.
