Prayer for the infant appearings of freedom

As long as the moon orbits the earth, it will go on pulling the tides. No cloud bank however dense, no network of dikes however vast, is going to stop this pull. Immensely more far-reaching—and scientific—is the assertion that in spiritual reality there are no clouds of mortal belief to deprive God of His perfect effect, man. Therefore, no walls of ignorance can cut off anyone permanently from the liberating influence of the one real cause, divine Mind.

Only the illusion that man is material makes it seem possible to pry effect loose from spiritual causation and lock man within the tyranny of material law and political oppression. But the effect of the Christ, God's ceaseless self-revelation, has always been to remind human consciousness of man's divine nature, of his unity with God, of his freedom from every phase of material bondage, and to impel the demonstration of these facts.

For seventeen days millions around the world cheered from the sidelines as strikers in Gdansk and other port cities of Poland held out against efforts of their Soviet-backed government to divide them, to appease them with wage increases, and to intimidate them with the reminder of possible armed Soviet intervention. The workers appear to have won substantial concessions.
