Something can be done about the weather

Where I live hurricanes are not uncommon. We are warned of approaching storms and given instructions on what to do to escape injury. This information is useful and appreciated. There is, however, something more we can do beyond taking normal human precautions to protect life and property.

I am convinced that prayer which admits God's all-power can result in greater harmony. Many people acknowledge God's omnipotence yet believe that catastrophes such as tornadoes and hurricanes are "acts of God" against which men are helpless. God is indeed the only creator, if we are to believe Holy Scripture, but to name Him as the author of evil forces contradicts the import of this statement: "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Gen. 1:31;

God's omnipotence is always good, never destructive. And in the logic of Christian Science, it must follow that whatever appears evil and destructive is not from God but is a pseudo power, a counterfeit without ultimate substance or force. Christ Jesus proved this. His understanding of evil's powerlessness enabled him to heal sickness and sin, to raise the dead, and to say to the boisterous wind, "Peace, be still." Mark 4:39;
