In 1917 when I was married, I stopped attending my former church. After only a short time I became troubled by what some said would be the consequences of leaving this church—so troubled that I felt very little freedom or joy. A close friend told me about Christian Science and recommended that I talk to a Christian Science practitioner. The nervous condition I had been suffering from was healed just through her explanation of God as the one Mind. This helped me understand that only good thoughts have a divine origin, and any suggestion that is less than good is therefore not real, since it could not originate in God.

Over the years I have gained a more sure conviction that there is no power other than God. This was a point that troubled me greatly for quite some time. But the help and guidance I have received through joining a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and The Mother Church, and taking class instruction in this Science, have furthered my understanding of God's omnipotence. I know, because of the many healings I have witnessed in demonstration of man's true, spiritual selfhood, that I have found the truth of being in Christian Science.

One autumn day a friend came to my home to do some canning. When she arrived, one of her hands was bandaged, and she told me that it was badly infected. She was quite depressed and confused over the problem, for she felt that although she had prayed as she had been taught in Christian Science, her prayers had not been answered.
