I first heard of Christian Science as a teen-ager

I first heard of Christian Science as a teen-ager. From early childhood I had been considered delicate, and I spent months in bed at different times in semi invalidism. My parents were loving, considerate, and protective, but they were not churchgoers, and they professed to have no religious convictions.

One day I was stung by a bee, and my body became very swollen. I was so ill that I felt I must be passing on. Some neighbors of ours were Christian Scientists, and their daughter offered to pray for me. Within an hour I was completely well.

Later that same year when I was bedridden with rheumatic fever, this same girl prayed for me again. I remember her asking me if I believed that God could heal me. I replied that I knew He could. Once more I was healed within the hour. My parents recognized the healing, and they were grateful for it, but they showed no particular interest in how it had been accomplished.
