Counteracting subliminal and conscious suggestion
TV soap operas sometimes depict immoral conduct as legitimate. Many game shows rely on sexual double-entendre for humor. Crime programs repeatedly show violence as the norm. Advertisers thrust upon their viewers and readers depictions of a suggested need for chemical dependency either as a solution for a problem or as an escape from it. And communication experts tell us that in some instances what look like ordinary advertisements and promotions actually hide subliminal messages that appeal to people's senses and emotions.
Can we protect ourselves from the suggestion and mental manipulation that seem to be rampant in the media today?
We certainly can.
