The birth of my son completely changed my attitude toward Christian Science. Until then I had been opposed to it, as I thought it was a form of hypnotism.
During my pregnancy I suffered from pneumonia and flu, and had a high fever. Doctors predicted the child would be stillborn. Although he lived, he was born weak and physically underdeveloped. He could not digest food, and there were other serious complications.
After consulting specialists, the family doctor told me that although where there was life there was hope, I should not set my heart on raising this baby. Everything medically possible had been done for him.
