A year and a half ago, I felt a small internal growth on the back of my neck. The lump wasn't particularly bothersome, nor was it readily apparent, because of my shirt collar and hair. My barber commented on it in a kindly way, suggesting that I have it removed. From time to time I gave myself Christian Science treatment, but I never actually came to grips with the problem.
Gradually the growth increased until twelve months later it was quite large. Now, highly concerned, I turned earnestly to Science for healing. I knew that in my procrastination I had not been faithful to the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy. In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures our Leader writes (p. 390), "Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought." Seemingly I had allowed this condition to grow by withholding thorough Christian Science treatment. Yet I also knew, as St. Paul writes (Rom. 8:1), "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus." I was not condemned to suffer today for yesterday's mistakes. What I needed to do was turn to the Christ today. The law of God is effective right now, and its application cannot be delayed, interrupted, or rendered inoperative by any human circumstance, including the past.
Although I prayed for myself for several days, the growth appeared to be getting bigger. I decided to call a Christian Science practitioner for help, and I continued to receive that help for about a month.
