A number of years ago, at a time when my husband's health was failing, we made a down payment on a modest house that required refurbishing. However, soon after we moved in I began having difficulty getting around and caring for our small son.
My sister and her family lived just across the street from us, and I was careful not to let them see evidence of the disease I was suffering from, for I didn't want to alarm them. The symptoms were the same as those my father and his brother had developed—a condition known as rheumatoid arthritis. Both of them had succumbed to this debilitating disease in their early thirties, which was my approximate age at the time.
With the help of a Christian Science practitioner, I prayed for a better understanding of the Word of God, which the Bible speaks of as "quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow" (Heb. 4:12).
