The real election
How can we be more certain of choosing a good and righteous government?
The prophet Isaiah writes, "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isa. 9:6; We prove that the government is "upon his shoulder" each day as we adopt only good as the ever-present reality and strive to elect "the kingdom of God ... within." Luke 17:21; As we endeavor to demonstrate the Christ, Truth, in every phase of our lives, we help to free mankind from discord and tyranny.
Opting for God is the real "election." In the book of Joshua we read, "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Josh. 24:15; We, too, must choose divine Principle, and not the false gods of the material world.
