Healing prayer accepts present perfection
Does prayer heal? Certainly it does. The Bible is filled with accounts of healings accomplished through prayer to God. The Christian Science periodicals contain documented testimonies of the healing effect of prayer.
Prayer has often been thought of as asking God for what we want or feel we lack. In Science one learns that man is God's spiritual reflection, already possessing all he wants and needs; that man exists in an absolute, God-given state of health, happiness, and harmony. The highest prayer, then, is recognizing and accepting the ever-present good that we already possess.
A father brought to Jesus his lunatic son, whom the disciples had failed to heal. The Master rebuked the devil; it immediately left the boy, and he was healed. When the disciples asked Christ Jesus why they had failed, he frankly replied, "Because of your unbelief." He admonished, "This kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting." Matt. 17:20, 21;
