This was the first healing in Christian Science that came through my own prayer. My wife had been hemorrhaging periodically for some months. One night I was holding her in my arms when her body stiffened, then went limp, and she quit breathing. Like Job, I felt that "the thing which I greatly feared" had come upon me. I repeated the Lord's Prayer. I also prayed over "the scientific statement of being" found in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. It includes these words (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." In prayer I then turned wholeheartedly to God, whose will I recognized to be all-loving and good. Instantly my wife drew a quick breath, opened her eyes, and said, "What happened?" I then knew that my prayer had been answered.

The finding of a needed document was another proof of divine Mind's care. When I discovered this paper was not where it was always kept, I hunted for some time, feeling all the while it might have been accidentally destroyed. Finally I turned to God and humbly prayed for help. I was prompted to look in a certain drawer of my desk, and the document was there.

Once I woke in the middle of the night with severe pain in my abdomen. I had long since ceased to look to matter for the cause of anything. Instead, I spent time purifying my thought, ridding it of a tendency to silently hash over the errors of others. I desired to be obedient to the ninth commandment (Ex. 20:16), "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour." Before long the pain was gone.
