What does the Reading Room offer?

Through her love of God, consecrated study of the Bible, and tireless efforts, Mrs. Eddy gained divine inspiration to fathom the unlimited resources of reality. Her discovery of Christian Science reinstated the healing method of Jesus. God's Word came to her through revelation, which she presented in the textbook, Science and Health, and in her other writings. Divine Love also opened other ways for her to share her message with humanity.

Mrs. Eddy established the Church of Christ, Scientist. As she writes in the Manual of The Mother Church, "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Mass., is designed to be built on the Rock, Christ...." Man., p.19; The Sunday School, the periodicals of The Christian Science Publishing Society, the Christian Science Reading Rooms, the lectures, serve as channels through which the Word of God reaches receptive hearts and minds.

The Reading Room is part of the church, and it is inseparable from the church. In the Reading Room the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy are available, and those who are seeking Truth and salvation can find inspiration, strength, and guidance by reading them. People perturbed by the pressure of materiality can find comfort. A page of the Bible or of Mrs. Eddy's writings—even opened to at random and just a few lines read— can bring light to the reader. As he catches the true meaning, his consciousness becomes a transparency for spiritual light, which destroys the darkness of the error and brings healing.
