That first step
A baby's first step is a momentous one; it opens up a whole new world to him. For adults, too, there's a vital first step to a new world—the first step in search of God. Why is that initial step so important in both cases? Because it commits the individual to a grand new endeavor. Until that first step has been taken, no second step is possible.
Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health: "One's aim, a point beyond faith, should be to find the footsteps of Truth, the way to health and holiness. We should strive to reach the Horeb height where God is revealed...." Science and Health, p. 241;
It is God Himself who impels us to seek Him and establishes us in the way. The Scriptures inform us, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord." Ps. 37:23; So we need constantly to look to divine Mind to direct and steady us on our step-by-step journey from the darkness of a material sense of existence to spiritual light, from ignorance to understanding, from doubt to conviction.
