For some time I had been praying to heal a condition of impaired eyesight. As I studied Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I sought a deep assurance that man is under God's government alone. This passage was especially helpful (p. 203): "Spiritual perception brings out the possibilities of being, destroys reliance on aught but God, and so makes man the image of his Maker in deed and in truth." Some progress had been noted. But when I began to understand that true vision is spiritual perception, I found I could easily read without glasses. I had recognized that good sight is inherent in man as the reflex idea of God, divine Mind.

I was hard at work one morning, when I became very ill with influenza. I stopped my work and turned to God, confident the truth of being would arm me to meet the situation. I had just studied this passage in Science and Health (pp. 234-235): "Evil thoughts and aims reach no farther and do no more harm than one's belief permits. Evil thoughts, lusts, and malicious purposes cannot go forth, like wandering pollen, from one human mind to another, finding unsuspected lodgment, if virtue and truth build a strong defence." Inspired by this, I realized that no mere belief in a man-made law can annul the power of omnipotent God, who is Love itself. Since there is only one God, who is omniscient and omniactive good, there can be no evil to oppose. Within minutes I felt great joy and gratitude, and in half an hour I was back at my job, completely well.

Recently I severely gashed my thumb while handling a stack of illustration boards. Inspiring truths from Science and Health so thoroughly filled my consciousness that I was not surprised when the flow of blood stopped instantaneously. There was no pain, and within twenty-four hours all evidence of injury had disappeared.
