When I was seven years old, I was stricken with scarlet fever

When I was seven years old, I was stricken with scarlet fever. My parents, who were then members of another church, prayed for me and also secured the best medical care available. However, my condition became critical, and the attending doctors said that I wouldn't survive. At this point, Mother contacted a Christian Science practitioner, and I was given treatment through prayer. In less than four days my recovery was complete.

Immediately, Mother turned wholeheartedly to Christian Science; and within a year my father joined her, after he had been healed of the smoking habit through his own prayer.

From that time on, my health improved markedly. So-called children's diseases were healed promptly by Christian Science treatment. Yet, as I grew up, certain difficulties came along that were not healed quickly. This was probably because at first they did not interfere with my activities and were therefore given little attention. However, once the need for corrective action was realized, and persistent prayer and study were applied, healing resulted. And each victory brought home an important spiritual lesson to me.
