Crops and livestock saved from destruction

Christian Science class instruction, taken when I was a young woman, proved a big help when I married and went to live on a farm. There were many opportunities to apply my newfound understanding of this Science.

In the midst of a wheat harvest, the exhaust from a truck that was driven through the field sparked a fire. At first the flames went unnoticed. Then a man driving by saw them. He came into our yard to get water and sacks to try to extinguish the fire. It looked a hopeless task for one person to attempt. I climbed on the windmill to watch, praying all the while. As I recalled Christ Jesus' words "With God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:26), this biblical question came alive for me (Prov. 30:4): "Who hath gathered the wind in his fists?" I saw the wind draw the fire back over the burned ground, and I attributed this to the power of God. The man was able to beat out the flames, and the wheat field was saved.

One year the potato bugs were stripping the plants. My husband went to town to buy some bug spray. I held to the truth that there is no substance in matter, for God, Spirit, is the only creator, and everything He makes is good. God does not create any destructive element to destroy His creation. I knew that God fills all space and that He is in control. When my husband came home, he went out to spray, but there were no bugs to be found on the plants.
