God's law brings release from tropical disease

Christian Science came into my life when I was a teen-ager

Christian Science came into my life when I was a teen-ager. A relative, whose hands and arms were paralyzed, was healed through Christian Science treatment, and this made a deep impression on me.

At one time I was stationed in a tropical country for almost two years. Skin disorders and other tropical diseases seemed to preoccupy many of the people of that country. Prior to my return to the United States, I noticed a rash breaking out on the lower portions of my body. It appeared to be impetigo, and it made me extremely uncomfortable. Turning to the truths I had learned in the Christian Science Sunday School, I was confident that God's man could not evidence any irritation or infection. In my true being, I was the expression of God, good, and I could therefore bear witness only to good. I insisted on these facts, and purely through the application of Christian Science my healing took place.

In the tropics, medical authorities urged the citizens to take shots and pills as a protection against malaria, a common complaint in that jungle area. Mrs. Eddy reminds us (Science and Health, p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." I accepted the promise of this statement. As a Scientist, I knew that my protection lay within the truths of God and man, so I declined preventive medical treatment in favor of reliance on God's law.
