I believe I know how grateful the woman with the issue of blood was when she touched the hem of Christ Jesus' garment, and the blood was stanched (see Luke 8:43-48). Over a period of three years my own prayerful work and that of several Christian Science practitioners, who helped me on different occasions, overcame the weakness that accompanied a problem of continuous bleeding. I touched the Christly hem when I realized I was not a mortal in need of healing.

This thought came to me one day after I stooped over to pick up something and had difficulty straightening up. The prayerful thought that I was not a mortal needing healing was accompanied by mental surgery, which corrected the internal bleeding as well as a difficulty with my back. I saw myself as spiritual and free and not in need of any change. I realized that though my hips at one time were not the same height, after this experience they were completely in line. This healing, which took place twenty years ago, has been permanent.

During the years of illness I gained much weight and had to increase my dress size drastically. It wasn't until I read two testimonies of Christian Science healing of excessive weight—one in the May 9, 1970, issue of the Christian Science Sentinel, and the other in the May 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal—that I realized how I could be healed of this condition, too.
