As far back as I can remember, I have always attended a Church of Christ, Scientist. However, due to personal circumstances, for many years I had never become a member of either The Mother Church or a branch church. Then one day, about three years ago, I lost my very dear mother, who was also my closest companion, and my life was suddenly completely changed. I suffered from grief, sorrow, emptiness, and fear of being alone. I knew I must overcome all this, and since there was no longer any reason not to take an active part in church activities, I now felt this was the proper time to do so.

My first positive step was to join the local branch church and shortly thereafter The Mother Church. I began to learn more how to study the Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lesson each day, and I began to use the Concordances to the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings to look up words covering my distressing emotions. This research gave me inspiration to work out the solutions. Immediately my life began to look brighter.

Through study of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy I learned (p. 377), "If grief causes suffering, convince the sufferer that affliction is often the source of joy, and that he should rejoice always in ever-present Love." And further in the book I read (p. 386): "You will learn at length that there is no cause for grief, and divine wisdom will then be understood. Error, not Truth, produces all the suffering on earth." Continuing on the same page, I saw, "So, when our friends pass from our sight and we lament, that lamentation is needless and causeless. We shall perceive this to be true when we grow into the understanding of Life, and know that there is no death." I realized the truth of these statements.
