Healing by looking out from God

When we want to gain a panoramic view of the countryside, we go to the highest spot we can find. If we need to get an even wider or more penetrating view, we use satellites and scientific instruments to probe the heights and depths of earth and sky. Always, though, we're observing material objects, which appear to be external to ourselves.

In Christian Science, however, we learn there is nothing external to God or man. Why? Because God is infinite Mind, all-inclusive Spirit, and man is Mind's spiritual expression, including all Spirit's ideas by reflection. When we understand this fact, we can begin to see that all these material objects that appear to be external to us are in fact only false images in human thought. We then can see the possibility of translating these material objects or images into their spiritual counter facts—true, divine ideas. As we do this through prayer, or spiritual vision, we gain glorious views of God's kingdom. The things on earth become representative to us of the harmonious and perfect objects of spiritual creation.

This translation of the objects of the material world back into Spirit is the work of Christian Scientists, and Mrs. Eddy tells us, "Spiritual vision is not subordinate to geometric altitudes." Science and Health, p. 215; So whether we would look out on the entire world or only on our own little corner of it, we can always do so—and should do so— from the spiritual altitude of infinite Mind.
