You are chosen
It is true. God has chosen you. No one can take your place. No other can fulfill the individual purpose God has given you. There is a distinctive and unique role you play in the scheme of reality. Your individual identity is essential. It must be fulfilled.
Mrs. Eddy writes: "No person can compass or fulfil the individual mission of Jesus of Nazareth. No person can take the place of the author of Science and Health, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity." Retrospection and Introspection, p. 70; God chooses us to fill our niche in eternity. As we glimpse this truth, our niche in time—our highest purpose in daily life—becomes apparent.
But how can we say that any given individual is chosen of God? Especially in light of the fact that Christian Science, in accord with the Bible, teaches that God is infinite Spirit. How could God know a human personality and select him or her for a specific role? He doesn't. God knows no materiality. He is not a manlike personality who has an overview of people—selecting some, rejecting others. Spirit is the intelligent substance of all reality. It is the only reality. There is no opposition to Spirit's allness.
