In the early fall of 1976, while cleaning the tractor mower to prepare it for winter storage, I struck my wrist several sharp blows against the metal housing of the mower attachment. The next morning my wrist seemed very sore and painful, and within a week a lump appeared.

In my hurry to clean the mower I had been impatient and not used wisdom. But I knew that my real being, as God's image, was continually reflecting all of God's attributes, including wisdom and patience. I realized there are no accidents under God's law, because He is the only cause of all action and is always in control, imparting only good. "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 424).

The lump was very noticeable, and at work others remarked about it, particularly the man in the office next to mine. He showed me he had the same problem, which was diagnosed as a ganglion cyst. He insisted the only remedy was surgical removal but admitted that his cyst reappeared two months later. I remember thinking, "Well, that remedy certainly is not the answer!" I knew, because the Bible tells us that we are the likeness of God (see Gen. 1:26), there could be no "imperfection in perfection."
