We can keep moving forward

Through the Valley

The Psalmist sang, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me." Ps. 23:4; Walk through the valley, not stay within it!

Christian Science shows us we can keep moving ahead in times of trouble. This Science accepts the validity of the first chapter of Genesis, in which "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him," Gen. 1:27; and "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." v. 31; These words obviously do not describe a material man and universe, exhibiting so much that is the opposite of good. "Created...in the image of God" can only be true of a spiritual man and universe.

It is the spiritual idea, therefore, that the Christian Scientist accepts as reality and truth. He rejects the material as unreal, an illusion, because God did not make it. Herein lies his confidence that afflictions, of whatever nature, can be walked through and left behind. In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy refers to the spiritual significance of the biblical term "valley" and says, "Though the way is dark in mortal sense, divine Life and Love illumine it, destroy the unrest of mortal thought, the fear of death, and the supposed reality of error." Science and Health, p. 596;
