PROVIDENCE

"Feed my sheep," the Master said,
Never relinquishing his flock
In which the feeder still is fed.

Peter did not create the rock
Upon which Jesus built his church:
The Christ is its own foundation block.

The fledgling bird must leave his perch
Trusting unseen uplifting air
He cannot make, and need not search.

Command includes the power to dare
Obedience; need includes the bread,
The gift provides the giver's share.
