Who Are Our Dependents?

Are children dependent upon their parents? Are employees dependent upon their employers? Are developing nations dependent upon the more developed nations? When viewed humanly, it would seem so. Many parents worry about providing adequately for their children; many employers are concerned when forced to lay off employees; and many people regard, with apparently hopeless compassion, the poverty and other hardships endured by the less fortunate.

But Christ Jesus said, "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Luke 12:32; And in Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Science and Health, p. 494;

If we believe the above statements, does this mean we have no responsibility? Can we neglect our children, our employees, our world neighbors? Where does God come in? Is He conscious of each human need so that He can meet it? Is there a position other than frantic human care or complete neglect? Christian Science shows us that while we are morally obliged to fulfill our responsibilities, we can be free from the burden of false responsibility, and study of the Bible in the light of the teachings of Christian Science shows us how.
