Greg's Armor
Greg was ten years old when he started riding his bicycle to school. One day, two weeks after school had begun, he came home with torn pants. He told his mother a big black dog had done it. The dog had chased him on his bike every day since school had started.
Mother was glad Greg hadn't been hurt, but still the new pants needed mending. As the law required dog owners to keep their pets in a fenced area or on a leash, Greg and his mother went over to see if they could find the dog's owner.
Greg hadn't been exaggerating when he said it was a big dog. It was the size of a Saint Bernard, and not fenced in. When they couldn't find the owner, Mother thought for an instant that it would be good to suggest that Greg take another route to school. Then she realized this would be running away from the problem. Other children were riding their bikes this way. The problem had to be faced.
