It was about twenty-two years ago that our youngest daughter's life was saved through Christian Science alone, after I found her lying on the bottom of our swimming pool. I am writing this testimony because I believe it is important for people to know how this healing took place.

One Sunday afternoon our five little children were swimming and playing in the pool with me. When it was time to go into the house, the baby-sitter took the six-month-old baby in for his supper, and I sent the other four youngsters inside to change their clothes. I was busy in another part of the house for about fifteen minutes, then went to the nursery to check on the children. Nobody knew where the youngest daughter was, so I searched for her everywhere. I finally found her lying on the bottom of the pool with her little terrycloth robe on. No one knew how long she had been there. I took her out and laid her on the grass, but I did not even try to use artificial respiration on her because I had never been taught how to. Then I remembered Christ Jesus' words (John 5:30): "I can of mine own self do nothing." I hastened to phone a Christian Science practitioner and asked him for his help.

I then went back to the baby and vehemently declared to her that God was her Life, that she was immortal, that she had never been born into matter and therefore could never die out of it, that her expression of Life was spiritual and had not begun with me. I told her that Life was not dependent on time, nor on material organization. I had remembered, at that point, two sentences from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (pp. 508-509): "The third stage in the order of Christian Science is an important one to the human thought, letting in the light of spiritual understanding. This period corresponds to the resurrection, when Spirit is discerned to be the Life of all, and the deathless Life, or Mind, dependent upon no material organization." Right then and there the little girl began to breathe, though with great difficulty, and the light came back into her eyes.
