How Class Instruction Equips Us to Heal

Those who have inquired into the religion of Christian Science have been drawn to it in many different ways and for many different reasons. Perhaps a majority have been led to search its teachings for the healing of some long-endured physical suffering or affliction, and many of these have been rescued from the very grave itself to find complete healing. As is well known, many have been restored to physical health simply by reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Such healings were the natural result of the human mentality being touched or regenerated, to some extent, by the influence of divine Truth that glows from every page of Science and Health. However, seldom did those healed comprehend at first the manner of their healing.

Many originally inquired into this Science in search of a satisfying concept of Deity, one that is meaningful and that lends itself to reason, and they gained some glimpse of God's real nature. Others have inquired into Christian Science for the purpose of challenging its basic teachings that Spirit and things spiritual are the only realities of life, and that matter is unreal, substanceless. And, often to their own surprise, they have found these teachings intellectually tenable. Indeed, these inquirers have discovered Mrs. Eddy's teachings to be thought provoking, inviting deep study and research because they radically depart from generally accepted theological views.

Mrs. Eddy refers to her teachings as a metaphysical system of healing, to be accurately and systematically applied. To become proficient in the application of this healing system requires a thorough acquaintance with the subject, and this points to the need for experienced teaching.
