Before becoming interested in Christian Science I had been a heavy smoker most of my life. Many times I had tried to give it up but without success, till one morning I found I had lost the craving for tobacco. I could not understand this, as I had not given it any thought for a very long time. My wife had been a student of Christian Science for five years.
Some three years after I lost the tobacco habit she invited me to accompany her and friends to the Thanksgiving service in a Christian Science church. I did not give an immediate answer but finally agreed, provided I could sit at the back of the church. My wife replied that I could sit where I liked.
When we had almost arrived at the church building, the door was opened and I saw inside. The wonderful feeling that went through me is impossible to describe. On entering, I felt it was my rightful place. It was like a homecoming and was truly wonderful, and I sat in the middle of the congregation. From that time onward church became part of my life.
