An Indispensable Idea

Man is an indispensable idea of God. He cannot ever become outmoded or useless. As God's own spiritual idea, or expression, his usefulness can never be depleted or come to an end. Man dwells forever in Mind, God, and is always necessary to Mind and active in good.

How important it is to recognize oneself as what one truly is: a spiritual idea of God, forever active in Mind, needed by divine Mind to fulfill its purpose. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "Mind is perpetual motion." Science and Health, p. 240; How, then, can there possibly be any stagnation anywhere?

Many things around us would constantly indicate that life will gradually wear out and someday reach an end. The physical senses tell us that living things eventually lose their useful purpose, then cease to exist. But doesn't each spring season bring us the promise of renewal, restoration, rebirth, as evidenced in the freshness of color and fragrance, and the charm of young animals and birds? All of these in greater or lesser degree point to the continuity of purposeful spiritual existence.
