I would like to thank God, our Father, with all my heart for a wonderful experience I had with our family the summer of 1974!
We drove to Denmark for a week to go tenting. They really were marvelous days, and we spent almost every minute at the ocean, which was only a few steps away from where we were tenting. Before we left to go there, I had had the feeling that I was unable to look forward to the vacation—as if something unpleasant was going to happen to me. I rejected this thought, however, at once, for it became clear to me that we can never, and in no situation, be separated from God's all-power and presence. This realization reassured me very much, but I still felt the need to be always in touch with God. I did this through wonderful talks that I had with God. I carried them on during the very long trip by car and every day in the tent, usually at night just before going to sleep. I never had the feeling that I was alone but rather the feeling of being in God. And this being in God gave me strength and joy to banish the erroneous thoughts of fear.
On the last day of our wonderful vacation we went down to the beach. In the northern part of Denmark, where we were, there is usually a raw wind and the sea is restless. You can never really go swimming there, but it is nonetheless fun to play around in the tingling sea water. Now, after we had made ourselves comfortable in a dune, Mummy, my sister, Minni, and I went into the water. Only later did we read that there are sandbanks in the ocean that continually shift, and that in between the sandbanks there are currents that would drive you out and into the open ocean in a matter of seconds. We were sensible and only went out in the water up to our middles. We also held each other's hands so that no one could get lost, for the waves had tremendous power and really gave us a whipping. Suddenly Mummy shouted, "Swim, swim!" I didn't know what happened to me then. But I simply swam.
