In my second year of college I was sent to the infirmary with what the doctor called mononucleosis. At the time I was fairly new to Christian Science. I had been attending the Christian Science college organization and the Sunday School of a branch church in that city, but I had not much knowledge of practitioners and what they do.

While in the infirmary, I decided that it was an opportunity to practice Christian Science, and so I discarded all the medication that was given me and began to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I read until I got to this statement (p. 395): "Like the great Exemplar, the healer should speak to disease as one having authority over it, leaving Soul to master the false evidences of the corporeal senses and to assert its claims over mortality and disease." There was suddenly a sense of peace and light that was so gentle that I will never forget it. I looked up from the page and realized that all the symptoms had disappeared.

Since then I have had to learn a great deal. It wasn't until several years later, when I was extremely unhappy, that I started attending the services of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and became a member soon after. I have had many proofs of the efficacy of Science, but I think the one I am most grateful for is finding the right career.
