Bread ... a stone ... a fish ... a serpent (Matt. 7:9, 10)
The Interpreter's Bible points out that a loaf of bread is shaped rather like a stone and a fish like a serpent. Dummelow comments: ". . . God will not mock an earnest suppliant, by appearing to answer his prayer, and giving him something which, though apparently good, is really noxious."
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself (Matt. 6:34)
