Words are inadequate to express my profound appreciation for Christian Science. Mrs. Eddy's discovery of the Science of Christianity has brought many blessings to me and my family, and I feel most grateful for the preventative aspect of this religion demonstrated through continuous good health.
While Christian Science is largely recognized for its physical healings, I have experienced a variety of other healings as well, among which are the cure of depression, discouragement, lack, frustration, and other limitations which try to frighten mankind.
In fact, one of the greatest contributions of Christian Science to mankind is its demonstration of Christ Jesus' teaching that man is free from limitation of any kind. This powerful truth was my sole source of reliance when, while attending graduate school, I discovered I had two weeks to complete a lengthy research paper.
Although four months had been allotted for the preparation of this paper, a variety of circumstances caused me to think that I would be granted an extension. With only two weeks, my immediate need was to overcome the fear of pressure caused by the belief that the limited amount of time would never allow for the successful completion of such a task.
However, as a student of Christian Science I had learned that all intelligence proceeds from divine Mind and that there certainly could be no limit to the amount and variety of ideas that Mind originates. Therefore, I found myself accepting this challenge as an opportunity to demonstrate that real intelligence is not subject to time. Consequently this academic obligation did not have to interfere with other daily responsibilities, especially that of studying the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. Beginning every day with the spiritual truths contained in these Bible Lessons enabled me to maintain a high degree of expectancy and kept me from giving in to discouragement.
Mrs. Eddy's definition of "intelligence" in Science and Health (p. 588) proved invaluable to me as I began the required research for the paper: "Substance; self-existent and eternal Mind; that which is never unconscious nor limited." The realization that intelligence does not depend on me for its existence but does in fact exist as a quality of God, helped me to understand that the needed information was available for me to find, and I did! Within ten days I was able to acquire all the necessary data, and still fulfill obligations to my other courses and a part-time job.
The next task was that of organizing the paper. By realizing that order and harmony are manifestations of God's control, this part of the "test" was also completed. The severest challenge came with the actual writing of the paper. But acknowledging once more that I reflect divine intelligence, I found this phase was accomplished easily.
Working with the idea that accuracy is characteristic of God's kingdom, the paper was successfully typed and submitted early on the day due. My paper received the recognition of honors, and I had no hesitation in transferring this distinction to God for the inspiration of a job well done! This experience was indisputable proof to me that regardless of what the material picture presents, we can rely on God to gain dominion over mortal beliefs.
Christian Science performs astonishing feats, and I'm truly grateful for the freedom from limitation that it promises to all. Class instruction with a dedicated teacher has revealed the precious possibilities open to all students of this grand truth. There are no words capable of conveying my appreciation for God's great love for man, as demonstrated through Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science.
