Our True Parent
To solve problems connected with heredity, it is important to consider what constitutes true parentage or creation. According to Genesis we have two opposing records of creation. In Genesis 1: "God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion ..." Gen. 1:26; In Genesis 2: "The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." 2:7;
Which record is accurate? Christian Science accepts the first, which is wholly spiritual. Still, throughout the Scriptures material and spiritual concepts appear to be in conflict. The physical senses tell us man is mortal, suffering, sinning, and dying; while spiritual sense, rising above the material, insists that man is wholly spiritual and immortal.
In a letter to the Corinthians, Paul writes: "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds)." II Cor. 10:3, 4; We can grow in our ability to prove the spiritual nature of man and our God-given heritage of dominion. We do this by relinquishing finite, limited concepts, which actually are only misconceptions of true creation. We gain an understanding of spiritual healing and the release it brings from sin and sickness—healing as proved by Christ Jesus and explained by Mrs. Eddy.
