Imperishable Substance
Sometimes what seems to the material senses to be our body, our physical substance, may present an unpleasant or even frightening picture to us. Through an understanding of our true, imperishable identity made in the likeness of perfect Spirit we can recognize ourselves as God's flawless, spiritual creation. In proportion as we do this, we regain any lost sense of health and harmony.
Mrs. Eddy's answer to the question "What is substance?" reads in part, "Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay." She adds: "Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance. The spiritual universe, including individual man, is a compound idea, reflecting the divine substance of Spirit." This statement can be practically applied to our daily life. I proved this when a wisdom tooth embedded in my gum began to ache. Previously I had had two wisdom teeth extracted when they bothered me. The dentist told me the other two would probably need to be removed later.
