Two years ago, during my senior year in college, I had the opportunity to spend a few months studying at a university in France. I looked forward to the trip very much because I saw it as a good opportunity to prove the truths I had been learning in Christian Science since childhood. Two other Christian Scientists were in my group, and the three of us shared many experiences in which we were able to use Science.

We lived on the university campus, but because some of our classes were in a town about five miles away we rented bicycles to ride to and from town. One morning I went down the hall of the dormitory to my friend's room to see if she was ready to go to class. She wasn't, and this made me angry, because I didn't want to be late. When she finally was ready, we met our other friend and went outside to get our bikes.

By this time it had begun to rain, but I was becoming so impatient that I suggested that we not take the time to get our umbrellas. Being in more of a hurry than the other girls, I sped ahead on my bike to the first cross street, where I rather hastily checked to see that no cars were coming. I failed to see a small gray car coming from behind me as I completed a turn. The car was going fast, and due to the wet, narrow street the driver was unable to avoid hitting me. I felt a thud as the car collided with my bike, causing me to hit the windshield and then land on the pavement in front of the car.
