Christian Science has come to my thinking as light entering a cave; first a candle, then a lamp, then a floodlight of truth.

An incident which really illumined the path occurred a few years ago when I was a counselor at a summer camp. Late one evening the entire camp was ill with food poisoning. When I became aware of the chaos, all the symptoms attacked me.

I quickly and joyfully saw that no counterfeit suggestion could keep me from being able to care for those under my charge. For the first time in my life I actually felt "willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord" (II Cor. 5:8). I was soon free of the debilitating symptoms by clinging to a real sense of God's closeness. My own quick healing gave me the gratitude and confidence I needed in helping metaphysically four children who were Christian Scientists, and they had rapid recoveries. In less than two hours the camp was resting quietly, and there was no evidence of the problem the next day.
